Leah started playing the ‘cello aged 10 and gained a full scholarship to Trinity in 2004. Leah began studies with David Kenedy and is currently studying with Naomi Butterworth. As a Mmus student, Leah was awarded the Orchestral Mentorship Scholarship awarded for Postgraduate Study, the Beatrice Taylor Scholarship as well as being a TCM scholar. This has enabled her to work closely alongside William Schofield of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the RPO. Leah was recently awarded a full scholarship by the Dartington International Festival in order to study with Raphael Wallfisch and has taken part in a variety of masterclasses, including those with Leonid Gorokhov, Lowri Blake and Roel Dieltiens. Leah has played with various ensembles both in London and at home in Wales, including the Britten Pears Orchestra, Young Janacek Philharmonic, Amadeus Orchestra and Sinfonia Cymru. A highlight of 2010 was being invited to Bangkok to play for the King of Thailand’s Birthday, as well as playing the solo Cello part of the Brahms Double Concerto with the Amadeus Orchestra in China.

Rebecca began playing the flute at the age of seven and started lessons at the age of eight. In 1996 Rebecca was awarded a place at the Junior Guild Hall school of Music and Drama where she studied for five years under Mary Ryan, Sarah Newbold and Anna Noakes. Rebecca has attended a variety of courses consisting of the National Wind and Chamber Orchestra of Great Britain, and ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ directed by Anna Noakes. She has also toured with Surrey County Youth Orchestra where she played first flute. Following this she won Godalming Music Festival where she was chosen to play at the rewards presentation evening. An invitation followed to play for Woking Symphony Orchestra. After accepting a place to study at Trinity College of Music on the BMus (Hons) course she continued her studies with Anna Noakes and also received tuition from Lynda Coffin. The group can however play as a quartet, with the addition of a violist, as a smaller ensemble, in Duo for a smaller affair or they can also be found to accompany a singer for a brilliant effect.

The Metropolitan Ensemble is based in London and was formed in 2001 by graduates from Britain’s top music conservatoires. They perform regularly in and around Greater London and can often be seen performing live in Covent Garden.

Individually, the members of the group play with many of the country’s leading orchestras including The Philharmonia, Manchester Camerata, English Festival Orchestra, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Southbank Sinfonia, as freelance players. They also provide music for sessions and pop artists such as Cliff Richard and Lisa Stansfield and members of the group have recently been involved with Channel 5’s ‘Back to Reality’ where they performed live.

As a group, The Metropolitan Ensemble specialise in providing live background music which creates a fun yet sophisticated ambience. Their youth, experience and vibrancy lends itself to many functions including wedding ceremonies and receptions, corporate and PR events, dinners, Christmas parties, product launches and garden parties.

The group is very adaptable and require no special lighting or power source making them a perfect choice for outdoor events. They are also able and willing to travel.

Trisha is now based in London, but grew up in Ireland, surrounded by music and song, with a very musical family background. Started out singing in pubs, as part of Irish traditional sessions, singing the old Celtic folk songs, her Irish influences at the time were artists like Dolores Keane, Mary Black, Maura O’Connell and Enya.

From a young age she was part of a church choir, and later went on to perform songs for church weddings, and more recently became part of a Rock choir group and performed solos in concerts around London. Has had singing gigs in private Friday night social clubs, and also as part of a traditional Celtic music group in the London pub scene.
