This summer, the Barbican centre is hosting its Groove Nation festival of funk and soul.
The festival begins on 28 May with a fantastic line up of internationally renowned artists, exploring the roots and influence of funk and soul. From African beginnings to today’s urban hybrids, we bring you a feast of funky grooves from around the globe with celebrated artists from Brazil, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Algeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, USA and Europe.
Seun Kuti & Africa 80 will open the festival on 28 May. They are joined by a reunited Geraldo Pino & The Heartbreaks from Sierra Leone. For more details see http://www.barbican.org.uk/music/event-detail.asp?id=7387
‘Still Black, Still Proud’ - An African Tribute to James Brown continues the festival on 14 June with a line up of legendary musicians including Pee Wee Ellis, Fred Wesley, Cheikh Lo, Tony Allen, Vieux Farka Toure, Simphiwe Dana, and more…

Seun Kuti, the youngest son of Nigeria’s late great Fela Kuti comes to the Barbican for one night only with his father’s band Egypt 80. Performing in Fela’s charismatic style, Seun’s saxophone melodies, wedding bands and explosive vocals are underpinned by high-energy, jazz-infused afro-beats.
Plus a special one-off reunion of Afro Soul legend Sierra Leonian Geraldo Pino and The Heartbeats.

Olivier Messiaen’s haunting cycle for organ, ‘Messe de la Pentecôte’ interspersed with John Taverner’s Mass ‘The Western Wynde’ and music by Thomas Tallis
Admission is free and the concert will last approximately 50 minutes, followed by a wine reception.

Dear friends,
Just a reminder about the Launch Night for our latest Salsa project promoting live Latin music in London. As we all know London has many top class Salsa bands, but not that many venues, if any at all, to showcase and nurture their talents. The new Salsa monthly, CASA DEL RITMO in North London launching tomorrow Friday 9th May will aim to fill this void. Please come and support live Latin music and have a good time with us, dancing till 2.30 in the morning.

We hope you are enjoying the wonderful sunshine! To accompany this week’s enjoyable weather we have some really fantastic events.
Launch Party of a Rock n Roll Circus - Thursday May 8th - Studio Valbonne
This Thursday May 8th we have the much awaited Launch Party of a Rock n Roll Circus hosted by Calum Best.
Our “Rock n Roll Circus!” willl be inviting you to come play and see where fantasy overrules reality and all labels are left behind! In the style of Studio 54 we aim for the NEW GENERATION to bring back Cool Britannia, a place where there are no rules!
Music from DJ’s Jagz Skillz from Jade Jaggers’ Jezabels soundsystem who will be playing a Mash Up Style in the Main Room. With music including a wide mix of Hip Hop, Rock, Pop, 80’s and Funk.
We are also lucky enough to have Pam Hogg (British Fashion Designer) hosting a slinky Salon in the VIP weekly with Surprise Live Music Performances.
Entertainment for the Launch Party will be vast….. including wierd and wonderful Circus Acts that will mesmerise!

Polo Masters 2008 - Sunday May 11th - Hurtwood Park - Amika Experience
On Sunday May 11th, we have the Polo Masters 2008 at Hurtwood Park hosted by Kenney Jones ( former Drummer of The Who, The Faces). The Events Agency are providing three different packages for this exciting day out at Hurtwood Park including Full Day Options and After Party Tickets for the VIP Amika Tent.
With a guestlist including an eclectic mix of top fashionistas and the social set to the hardcore polo fraternity, the day promises to be a resounding success.
The Polo Masters is the first High Goal event of the Polo calendar and is set to kick off this season in unmatchable style and excitement. With the last Polo Masters event a huge success and spectator figures in excess of 7,000 on the day, it looks like the 2008 event will be better than ever with over 9000 people expected. The day will be the grand finale of the weeks breathtaking polo action in which the top two teams battle it out for the coveted Asprey trophy.
