Wedding Bands and musicians for the Wedding Booking Season

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

As April comes closer the thousands of live musicians in the UK prepare with numerous rehearsals and studio sessions for the busy and lucrative wedding booking season. Weddings amount to the largest percentage of decent paying gigs for most of the semi professional musicians who are part of a Wedding Band. The demand for wedding bands and wedding musicians is highest for the Saturdays in summer. Price ranges from £250.00 - £350.00 per musician for the quality live wedding bands.  These wedding bands have their insurance up to date, their electrical equipment, PA system, instruments and Lights are PAT tested and ready for their performances.  Most of the musicians are also graduates of the popular music colleges ranging from the Royal Schools/College of music, Trinity Collegue of Music, Guildhall College, University of Westminster and other established music colleges and universities. Wedding Season is the time they make money having fun performing and its a time for them to update the wardrobe and equipment. Most musicians work within the music industry or teach music. In essence they are full time music professionals.

Very often we are asked for discounts wedding bands, unfortunately if its a Saturday any band that is good will not offer a discount. Generally if a bride and bridegroom get married on a Friday or Sunday (except Jewish wedding bands for Sunday), they may have a chance for a 15-20% discount. If they do get married between Monday and Thursday, they could very well name their price. Last moment wedding bookings are also in a good position to negotiate a discount (4 to 8 weeks before the actual wedding date)

Can we see the wedding band performing live? This is the question that most music agents and agency hope to avaoid. Why? The professional wedding band rarely perform outside a private wedding function or a coporate event, i.e in a pub for £50.00 per head. There are very few pubs that have the budget to hire a professional live band. Clubs  that actually have the budget dont actually hire live bands. Due to space restriction most London restaurants find that it is more cost effective to have two tables rather than a band taking the space since the restaurants are full anyway.  Most wedding band bookings are thus made via reccomendations or by the bride speaking to the band leader and their previous clients.
