Swing Band In London
The Syndicate Swing Band was formed to interpret the swing-to-bop style in their own way. They have performed in a number of London’s celebrated venues such as The Troubadour and The Bulls Head.
At pub gigs the guys in the band wear suits and ties and Tuxedos for corporate events and weddings. Roxane always dresses with a tasteful glamour with sensitivity to the nature of the occasion.
Meet the band
Lead Vocals Roxane
Roxane is a vocalist and musician who studied for over a decade in institutions such as the Blackheath Conservatoire, Arts Educational, and with renowned jazz singers Tina May and Anita Wardell.
She has performed in many different events and showcases both abroad and in the UK with musicians such as the Bob Stuckey Trio and has won several awards for her singing and musical performance.
Martin he Bassist
Martin, the band leader, is the bass player and guitarist with a background in many different outfits over several decades.
He played guitar in the Kathy Stobart/Olaf Vass Big Band in the late 70’s and with the Roger Cawkwell Quintet, then working with an Arts Council grant, in the early 80’s.
He has had occasional, but very valuable, lessons with veteran jazz and session guitarist André Emonds.
Martin has a PhD in musical composition from Goldmiths’ College, London and in recent years has taught Jazz Studies at the London College of Music.
Laurence On The Keys
Laurence plays the piano and organ in The Syndicate Swing Band and is a composer active across several genres. He has won awards for his classical compositions and writes songs and jazz charts for selected artists.
He has written film music for clients in the healthcare and educational sectors and produced a music video screened on the BBC Big Screens nationally in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics.
Laurence studied piano performance, composition and jazz at the London College of Music.
Tom The Drummer
Tom graduated from The London College of Music with a BMus (Hons.) degree in Music Performance and Recording.
He has now embarked on a freelance career as a drummer. Apart from drumming with The Syndicate Swing Band, Tom teaches drums and leads percussion workshops.
He comes from a musical family, is a cousin of celebrated percussionist Jez Wiles, and has had a passion for music all his life.
Tom is a jazz specialist but also has extensive drumming experience across a wide range of styles.
The Saxophone players and guests
The Syndicate Swing Band normally perform as a 4 – 5 piece band as they have a number of first class saxophonists they can call on to perform.
The most regular to appear with the band is veteran jazzer and session player George, who also works as a music education consultant.
The Syndicate Swing Band have also worked with tenor player Luke and trumpeter Joe.
