Specializing in Lithuanian National Instrument, the Kanklės
Emilija is a professional classical musician living and working in London, England. Her musical journey began many years ago when she first picked up the kanklės (the Lithuanian National Instrument) at the age of nine. Since then, she has dedicated most of my time to learning the art of music.
In 2018, Emilija moved to the UK with the intention of popularising and showcasing an unknown instrument. Her mission has always been and continues to be introducing it to a wider audience within the music scene.
She has had numerous opportunities to speak about her country’s instrument, and Emilija is pleased to see that listeners are genuinely interested in learning more about the kanklės and its history.
Since her arrival to the UK, she has had countless performances in various venues and events all across London and is gradually building her music career as well as establishing herself as a solo performer.
Emilija does not only specialise in solo performances but also in event performances (weddings, private events, funerals, etc.) and session recordings. Despite her focus on solo works, she has extensive experience performing with a variety of musicians (pianists, vocalists, drummers, guitarists, and harpists). Continuous performances with musicians from various backgrounds taught her to experiment with different genres of music, such as folk, popular, and improvisation.
Emilija hopes that by exploring her love for Lithuania and her deep connection with the kanklės, she can pique your interest in learning more about your own country’s rich culture and unique customs.
